Is it appropriate to put this type of thing on my resume?

When I applied to colleges as a high school student, I put things on my resume like making two documentaries which one national history day awards and winning chess tournaments. Are these still appropriate things to include on my resume when I'm applying to work-study jobs at my college, or should I just include work experience (which I don't have much of)?
